Every Disney story has a moral. They’re fairy tales and cautionary tales and hopeful tales. The moral of this post is simply this: It’s hard as hell to keep a secret for ten months. BUT TOTALLY WORTH IT! Last February, Brian and I tossed around the idea of spending Christmas 2019 at Disney with the three kids. As we talked about it and looked at packages, we realized how much fun it would be to surprise them with the trip. We booked the trip and then Brian surprised ME with a weekend at Disney, so then we really got excited about making the Christmas trip a truly magical surprise. I…

2015: The Gloriously Weird Year of Finding Myself, Divorcing, and Turning 40
What a weird year this has been. I mean, I knew it was weird, but then looking back through my photos and calendar… wow. It’s been a doozy. I’ve been rather quiet here over the course of 2015, my words few and far between. Much has gone on that hasn’t been for public consumption. My (now) ex-husband and I have never made our private matters public, especially in this space, so starting now would have been odd. When we decided very early this year to separate, that things weren’t ok, my words left me. My mind was on overdrive and well, elsewhere. The year started very restlessly. I was restless and…

Goals. And Reaching Them.
It’s not a secret, if you’ve been around here for a bit, that I have a love/hate relationship with running. I had never been a runner until one random morning in June 2012 when I decided, “Hey, I should run.” Yes, just like Forrest Gump. Short version of the story: I started Couch to 5k and a few days later was talked into signing up for the Princess Half Marathon, which would be run a short 8 months after I got my ass off my couch. It was with the team from the Ronald McDonald House in Macon. I’ve been a part of the RMHC in Macon since before it…

Running Contentment
This week I wrote down the word “Contentment.” Contentment is always a goal of mine. Sometimes I feel content with life and other times I feel like I’m flailing around like a fish out of water. I long for the times where I can just be. I’m one of those people who is silently competitive. I like to raise more money than everybody else for my TeamRMHC races (yes, see sidebar for the link to donate). I like to be part of things that are just starting out (see twitter, ello, instagram). In high school I wanted to always win all the awards I could at dance team camp. I’m pretty good…

Change.
A few weeks ago, my energy got gunky. I’m not sure how or why or what it was about. But I know that it felt like change was brewing. You know that feeling when you know something has to change, but you aren’t sure what it is? That’s how it felt. Long story short, thoughts were put out there that if change needed to happen in my life (whatever part of my life needed it), then change was free to happen. So it did. As of Friday the 13th (next Friday), I will no longer be selling plants. I’ll no longer be making a 45 minute drive, one way, to…

The Dumbest, Most Amazing Thing I’ve Ever Done #GlassSlipperChallenge
There. I said it. Running the Glass Slipper Challenge was the dumbest thing I’ve ever done. Yet it was also one of the most amazing. Twenty-ish months ago, when I decided to lace up some running shoes and give the whole running thing a shot, I had no clue I would end up running three half marathons in one calendar year. I certainly didn’t think I would be insane enough to sign up for a 10k and a half marathon in ONE WEEKEND. That much I can promise you. Yet I did. And (spoiler alert for those who live under a rock) I did it. Last month, I wrote a…

Letting My Competitive Side Show
I don’t feel like I’m very competitive. I mean, I’m sure I am in many ways, but I don’t think of myself as going around being all “I have to be THE BEST or I have to WIN or I have to run as FAST as I possibly can.” Maybe I do and just don’t know it. But at any rate, I don’t feel competitive for the most part. Until it comes to fundraising. When it comes to fundraising, I long to be the best. Did you hear me? THE BEST! In less than two weeks, as you may know (unless you’ve been living under a rock or are new…

It Was Like My Childhood, Only WAY Cooler
We’re car people. That’s no secret to anyone who has been to our house. Right now, we have four cars in our driveway – though none of them domestic. So when I got an email about test driving a GM vehicle for a week, I kinda went, “meh.” But that was mostly because I haven’t driven a domestic vehicle since our 1997 Tahoe and my 1990 Cavalier. Both had AMAZING air conditioning systems which, hello, the US wins that category hands-down! We knew we were headed to Disney and the timing would be perfect for test driving a car of our choice. Last Wednesday, a 2014 Chevrolet Impala was delivered…

This is probably a bad idea.
Remember a while back when I talked about making sure I was SO VERY prepared for the Wine & Dine half marathon? Remember when I said I was going to lose 20 pounds before the race? Remember when I made ALL THOSE PLANS? Well, life happened. I could make a million excuses about why I’m not ready, but the bottom line is that I’m not ready. Physically, I’m not trained at all. Sure, I’ve run. But nothing of any length or importance. Mentally? I’m so ready I could run it tomorrow. This is probably a bad idea. In one part of my mind, I feel like it’s going to be…
